Glossary of Terms

Affordable Housing: Spending less than 30% or less of your total income on total housing costs including utilities.

AMI - Area Median Income: The midpoint of a region’s income distribution. Helps determine what is affordable for different income levels, and shows which incomes are addressed by various government programs.

Community Land Trusts: A nonprofit, community-based organization that works to provide perpetually affordable home ownership opportunities. A Community Land Trust acquires land and removes it from the for-profit, real estate market.

Cost Burdened: A household is considered cost-burdened when 30% or more of its monthly gross income is dedicated to housing.

Human Rights Housing Fund: This fund will pool existing monies and land from the city and our partners to invest in the construction of social housing developments in collaboration with community land trusts.
